Frequently asked questions

Grooming made easy, tails wagging

Got questions about our dog grooming? We’ve got answers! Here’s everything you need to know before your pup’s next adventure.

When should I book my appointment?

We recommend booking as early as possible to get your preferred time slot! For the best availability, we suggest:

2+ weeks ahead, for a full haircut (especially for doodles!)

3+ weeks ahead, if you have multiple pets

What vaccines does my pet need?

Starting July 15, 2025, Colorado requires proof of current vaccinations for all grooming facilities. Here's what we need to see:

Dogs:

- Rabies (16 weeks and older)

- Distemper/Parvovirus or DHPP/DAPP (8 weeks and older)

Cats:

- Rabies (16 weeks and older)

- FVRCP/feline distemper combo (8 weeks and older)

You can bring your vaccine records from your vet at drop-off, or upload them through our client portal via text or photo. If your pet has a medical exemption, we'll need a signed letter from your veterinarian. These statewide requirements help keep all our furry clients healthy and safe!

How long will my pet's appointment take?

Most grooming appointments take:

Up to 2 hours for a bath

Up to 3 hours for a haircut

We'll text you when your pet is ready for pickup! Sometimes we can give you an estimated pickup time at drop-off.

Do you groom cats?

Absolutely! We're happy to groom well-behaved cats. Our cat grooming services typically include dematting, bathing/deshedding, and nail trims. We can also do full haircuts for very cooperative kitties.

Help! My dog just rolled in something gross. Can you fit us in?

While we normally ask that baths be scheduled in advance, we do have self-wash stations available for walk-ins. Give us a quick call or text first to make sure someone's at the shop!

What if my pet gets anxious or aggressive during grooming?

We want everyone to feel safe and comfortable! For pets who get very stressed or aggressive, we recommend grooming at your veterinarian's office where sedation is available if needed.

For dogs who just get a bit snarly during certain parts (like nail trims), we have gentle techniques including basket muzzles that keep everyone safe. For cats showing signs of stress or aggression, we'll pause the groom and send them home—their safety and comfort come first!

I just got a puppy! When can I bring them in?

Congratulations on your new family member! The best time to start grooming is between 8-12 weeks old, right after their second round of vaccines.

Puppy Prep at Home: Getting your puppy comfortable with being handled and standing still on a table will make their grooming experience much easier. We know you're juggling a lot as a new puppy parent

First Groom: Your puppy's first visit will include a bath, light trim, and lots of positive training. Pricing depends on the time involved—we spend extra time on training but less on drying (hooray for that soft puppy coat!). As your puppy grows and their coat changes to a thicker adult coat (around 6-8 months), pricing will gradually adjust to adult rates.

Can I book a private appointment?

Private appointments are available for cats, large dogs who are anxious around other pets, and households with multiple pets. We typically keep our schedule limited to no more than 2 overlapping appointments anyway—we don't want your pet hanging out here any longer than necessary! Call or text us if you think a private appointment would work best for your pet.

Do you use crates?

Not typically! We have separate holding areas (we call them suites) divided by gates, so dogs from different families never mix—this isn't a daycare. We may use crates for drying cats, since they can be escape artists! Our goal is always to get your pet groomed and back to you as quickly as possible.

Can I leave my pet there all day?

We'd prefer if you could pick up your pet within an hour of their groom being finished. We want to get them back home to you where they're most comfortable!

Are you the same as the Dog Chalet?

Nope! We're separate businesses in the same building. However, if your pup is staying at the Dog Chalet and needs a groom, we're happy to coordinate with them. Just give us a call or text in advance so we can check availability.
